International Day for Biodiversity
The 22nd of May the " International Day for Biodiversity" was celebrated. Biodiversity can easily be explain "the variability among living organisms from all sources". This was how the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro defined the word "biodiversity". This includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems. The day that was proclaimed by the United National, to increase the understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues, because biodiversity has a multitude of anthropocentric benefits of biodiversity. Some of the areas are agriculture, science and medicine and industrial materials.



The theme of this years Day of Biodiversity was "Biodiversity & Agriculture". Some of the themes from previous years are:

2007 "Biodiversity & Climate Change"

2006 - "Protect Biodiversity in Drylands"

2005 - "Biodiversity: Life Insurance for our Changing World"

2004 - "Biodiversity: Food, Water and Health for All"

We from the organization PRAXIS held an exhibition about the Internation Day of Biodiversity on the 22 of May. The exhibition took place in the central square here in Serres, Greece.
