[news] 29.10.2008 The Serron-Eco-Conference On the weekend of 24th until 26th of October one of the biggest events of the year took place in a small town which we like to call Serres. What we are talking about here is the so called "20th eco-conference of the Pan-Hellenic-Network of Ecological Organizations" at which even Mister Stavros Dimas, european Comissioner of Environmental issues gave a speech. Click "...more" to read what happened... Previously there were a lot of thinks to manage and to organize. The PRAXIS-Volunteers helped in this case by informing the local inhabitants by pinning up posters in the whole town. They also prepared the meeting-place of the conference, the Technological Educational Institution of Serres (TEI) for the conference and managed the conference' run-off - which includes working at the reception, supporting the speakers if they needed help, taking care for the technical equipment and eventually being there for any worst case. Discussed topics of the Eco-Conference were the "natural environment" and the role of "Management Authorities" and of "Public Administrations" relating to environmental protection. The lot of greek but also international speakers and visitors who took part of the conference discussed the speakers' speeches and contributions seriously and deeply - and even not only in the official conference but also after the conference at the dinner which all had together. The discussions made clear that there is a conflict between the authorities of the public administration and management authority and the particular organizations who are responsible for the environmental protection which means for example forester-organizations. After two days of contributions, speeches and discussions the conference-participants had on saturday a day-out to greece' third biggest storage lake - Lake Kerkini. This excursion also leaded the participants to the "Lake Kerkini Museum" where they could learn a lot about the seasonal changes of the lake which have effort to what animals are living when at Lake Kerkini. This excursion pointed out how instabil and interwoven the ecological system of the environement actually is. The main conclusion of the 20th eco-conference of PANDOIKO is that there is a lot of work to do in order to protect the environment. Unfortunately - and at this case the most of the participants agreed - Greece discovered its mission to protect the environment rather late compared to environmental protection progresses in other countries. But - and in this the most conference' participants agreed, too - therefor Greece has to hurry up and to manage in rather short times what other countries managed in decades. This displays articulately that there is a need of bunched forces so as to protect the environment in Greece. Dany; 0 comments © 2004-2008 rCMS by rolandinsh.lv |
